Rhodes is one of the most popular islands in Greece, and is known for its historic ruins and glorious beach resorts. Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese islands, offering plenty of things to see and do across the island. Whether you choose to base your Greek stay on Rhodes or you just want to check out the island for a day or two from elsewhere, you'll want to make the most of your time.

There are many ways to enjoy yourself; spending time on the beach, going shopping, or exploring the culture and rich history Rhodes has to offer. Take a look at these tips for planning your trip.
Find your own way to get around

There are several ways of getting around Rhodes, so choose what you like best. If you want the convenience of your own vehicle then rent a car in Rhodes. If you are not travelling with family or a big group, some people prefer a moped or motorbike. If you don’t wish to drive on holiday, local buses can help you to get around the island, there are even bus tours you can enjoy. Taxis are also available, or you might like to book an excursion or tour. For anyone wanting to exercise, cycling is a great way of getting around.

Explore incredible history

Rhodes, like much of Greece, is packed full of history and culture. You couldn’t possibly get bored or run out of things to see and do as there is just so much! For history buffs, check out the museums on the island and visit historical sites. Museums include the Archaeological Museum, the Toy Museum and the Stamatiadis Museum of Mineralogy and Paleontology. If you prefer to see history in its natural place, visit the historic Old Town, the must-see Acropolis of Lindos, or marvel at the Palace of Grand Master or Monastery of Filerimos.

Enjoy food and drink on the island

Greece is an excellent travel destination if you love food and drink. Whether you're looking for family-friendly restaurants or some cool bars to visit, Rhodes has a lot to offer if you want to enjoy some Greek cuisine. There's plenty of delicious Greek food, but if you fancy trying something else, there are other cuisines available in both traditional establishments and more modern places. While many restaurants are in the city, take a trip to various villages to discover more fantastic food.

Catch a thrill with watersports

If you think Rhodes sounds like a sleepy place to be, think again! One thrilling option is to try some water sports, such as jet-skiing, windsurfing, kitesurfing or waterskiing. If you prefer something a little more sedate, go stand-up paddleboarding. Travelling to other islands by ferry is also an excellent way of spending your day.

Rhodes is a beautiful place, and suitable for all kinds of people. If you're planning to visit, I hope you find these ideas helpful before your trip.
