Family Hideaway Gili Air is a new luxury house, and already a hot topic of conversation on the island. I was very excited to visit this luxury retreat, it was a shame we could only spend one night there.
We immediately felt at home and were surprised at how quickly we settled in.
But why? What was it about this 3-bedroomed luxury villa that made us feel so comfortable?
Maybe the answer is already obvious.
Located a short walking distance from the harbour and beach, Family Hideaway Gili Air is close to all the action, but far enough away to be quiet and private.
As we walked through the door, the indoor pool was first to catch our eye. A lovely area to cool down and seek some respite from the heat of the day.
Just like most 2-storey houses, the living area is located downstairs. It has a good sized, fully equipped kitchen complete with dining table and eight chairs. Other facilities include a Fridge, freezer, dishwasher, water cooler, kettle, oven, hob, knife block set, utensils, cutlery, plates and everything else you would expect in a “home from home”. If you love to cook and wish to have a dinner party, everything you need is here for you. The kitchen diner is a great area for friends and family to socialise, either to play card games, or simply relax, and chat over a cold beer purchased from the shop just around the corner.
For families with children who want breakfast at 6am before anywhere opens, you can stock up the kitchen from one of the island’s main supermarkets (Unik or Siti Shop) which are two minutes away. They sell muesli, cereal, yogurt, fruit, bread, butter, milk and coffee. And chocolate, for the choco-holics out there.
Natural light floods in through the large windows, but spot lights are strategically placed to provide ample lighting wherever needed.
As the sun set, the light streamed through the large windows of the indoor pool creating a soft glow, and a wonderful ambience.
Wi-fi
Internet is fibre optic so is fast and reliable. Finding decent wi-fi on Gili Air is hard, believe me! As a travel blogger and digital nomad, finding an establishment with dependable wi-fi is the bane of my life, and places like this are few and far between.
Upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms
There are Three Double Bedrooms to choose from, all with King Size Beds, rustic white washed wardrobes and bedside cabinets complete with small table lamps. Never underestimate the simple pleasure of a bedside lamp, they provide cosy atmospheric night time lighting. For the environmentally conscious, reclaimed boat timber is used for all the bedroom furnishings.
In a luxury villa, I expect nothing less and Family Hideaway Gili Air didn’t disappoint.
Main Bathroom
The large bathroom is shared by the remaining two master bedrooms, and has exactly the same facilities as the en-suite, including the rainforest shower.
With a plethora of restaurants around to suit every taste, from local dishes to western cuisine, you don’t have to walk very far when hunger strikes. A couple of restaurants nearby will even deliver your dinner!
A small local shop is around the corner for snacks, refreshments or a cold beer which can be chilled in the fridge.
If you wish to remain active on holiday, the gym is a 2 minute walk away (or a 30 second jog).
A yoga studio is within close proximity, Utopia Massage and Spa is also nearby.
For your morning coffee, the property has a fully functioning kitchen. If you didn’t wish to cook when you are away, Coffee and Thyme at the harbour is 5 minutes away, serve a delicious breakfast, and arguably the best coffee on the island.
If you are a scuba diver or freediver, the nearest dive centres are also 5 minutes away. If you don’t dive yet, you can have an introduction lesson, or take the 3-day Open Water Course.
Next door to the villa is a small tourist information booth to help make your stay even more perfect. They can book your fast boats from Bali, day trips, snorkel trips, cooking classes, airport transfer from Lombok and a cidomo when you are on the island to help carry your luggage. They will even help you with your laundry service.
- Wi-fi Fibre optic.
- Every room has air con. The downstairs area is also equipped with large ceiling fans for extra comfort.
- Fresh water showers – not all accommodation on Gili Air has fresh water, only the best!
- Indoor dipping Pool with mood lighting.
- An abundance of plug sockets in each room.
- Large, spacious rooms with plenty of natural light.
- Own generator for any island electricity shortages.
Final verdict
Family Hideaway Gili Air truly is a quiet and relaxing luxury retreat. Gili Air doesn’t have a three bedroomed 2-storey villa, so this luxury house comfortably fills that niche.
Every home comfort is provided for you so you don’t have to think about anything. As a luxury villa, it has all the amenities one would expect.
Its location is perfect. Everything you need is nearby, yet this villa is hidden away for your privacy.
I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Perfect for: Families with children, couples, or friends wishing to holiday together.
