If you are planning to spend your next holiday in Vietnam, you really must visit Halong Bay, which is the premier beach destination, with more than 2,000 islets, each with their own exclusive beaches. Halong Bay is 150km east of Hanoi, and the best way to spend your holiday in Halong Bay is on board a luxury cruise liner, which sits in the sheltered bay, giving you a perfect view from your own cabin balcony.

Before you book your Halong Bay cruise, here is an idea of the must-visit places.
Lan Ha Bay

Located at south of Halong Bay, this area is much less touristy, and with more than 400 islets, you can find a quiet spot where you will not see anyone. One of the most popular activities in Lan Ha Bay is kayaking. When you are free to explore the many islets, and with your snorkelling equipment, you can spend a few hours in your kayak, exploring small bays. The best Halong Bay cruises can easily be found with an online search, and with Lan Ha Bay right next door, you are perfectly situated.

Cat Ba National Park

This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the most popular attractions within the park is Viet Hai fishing village, where about 80 families live in complete harmony with nature. Their simplistic way of life is a stark contrast to the pressures of western life, and no one ever bothers to lock their house when they go out. Spending a day in this picturesque fishing village is definitely something you should do, and exploring Cat Ba National Park will be an unforgettable experience.

Monkey Island

Aside from the monkeys, you can take a scenic walk up to the top of the island, where you have a breath-taking view, and you should make sure to wear suitable footwear in order to negotiate the path to the high point of the island. The monkeys are very curious and you do have to keep hold of your possessions, especially anything of value, as these creatures are very adept at collecting things from tourists.

Cat Ba Island

This is the largest and most populated island that covers just over 250 square kilometres, with a local population of around 13,000 inhabitants. One very popular destination is Cai Beo floating village that is home to 300 families, most of which have fish farms or make a living from sea fishing, and the town of Cat Ba is approximately 2km away. This idyllic island is always a popular place for tourists to visit, and it should be on your list of must-see local attractions.

Online Cruise Holiday Operators

Rather than staying in beachfront accommodation, you are advised to book a cabin on one of the cruise liners that are moored in Halong Bay. They have a wide range of luxury cabins, each with its own private sea view balcony, with en-suite bathroom facilities and all the mod cons you would expect on a 5-star cruise ship.

Once you have booked your berth on a luxury Halong Bay cruise, you can do some online research that will help you to plan and prepare for what will surely be a holiday to remember.
