Visiting California is something that everyone should aim to do at some point in their lives. Known as the golden coast, this coastal region has much to offer. Whether you’re looking for a bit of sun, a refreshing beachside break, or some vacation time, you should definitely consider the Cali coast. 

On your next vacation, you may be wondering where to go,  but If you’re already sold on heading out west, with hundreds of miles of ocean shoreline, where should you visit? California is such a big state, and there are so many incredible locations dotted all down the coast, how will you decide?

Let us take a look at five really cool locations that will help your California dreams to come true.

1. Santa Monica

First of all, we’re going to talk all about the beautiful location that is the city of Santa Monica. Here, when you bag yourself a central base such as JW Marriott Santa Monica, there’s so much for you to explore. West of LA, you’ve got the beauty of enjoying a beachfront location, then nipping into the city if you want to explore. This location is ideal if you want to enjoy the attractions at the infamous Santa Monica Pier, along with the cool aquarium. South of the pier is the original muscle beach considered to be the birthplace of physical fitness, however today it serves gymnasts, acrobats and youths with an extensive training area, If this beach isn’t for you, there’s also Santa Monica State Beach, a range of art galleries, and the Third Street Promenade to eat, shop, and be entertained.

2. Monterey

Next, you may want to give Monterey some real consideration. A city with a lot to offer, you’ll find this along the central coast. Once the center of the sardine-packing industry, Cannery Row is a must-see spot full of lovely little shops, bars, and delicious seafood restaurants. You can also indulge in a little wine tasting too. Following with the marine theme, there’s the Monterey Bay Aquarium to see, and you may be lucky to spot a whale or two from Monterey Bay. Don’t miss the breathtaking scenery along the 17 Mile Drive, you will be rewarded with magnificent coastline views as it weaves through the Del Monte Forest, and experience the natural wonders of Monterey.

3. San Francisco

The next notable occasion to talk over has to be San Fran! There are so many cute areas to stay in San Francisco, so make sure you do your research and find the perfect spot . With its steep rolling hills, this city comes with incredible views over the ocean. There is also the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, the cable cars, and of course the rainbow of colorful Victorian houses. If you’re thinking of stopping here, make sure you visit Alcatraz Island and explore the infamous former prison.

4. San Diego

From north to south, further down the coast you’ll find San Diego. Here you will find more than 100 miles of coastline and beautiful golden sandy beaches. Take a harbor cruise and enjoy the magnificent San Diego Bay, you will even have a chance to see the colony of California sea lions! If you love galleries, parks, museums, then San Diego is the spot for you.

5. Malibu

And finally, we have Malibu. Famous for being the home to Hollywood movie stars, with plenty of central Malibu hotels to stay in, you’ll be able to absorb what this city is famous for. To the west of LA, along the city’s self-proclaimed “27 miles of scenic beauty” you’ll find lots of beautiful premier beaches. Nicknamed “the Bu” by locals and surfers, stunning beaches include Zuma beach, which consistently ranks as one of LA’s healthiest beaches. But there’s more to Malibu than just beaches, visit the canyons, waterfalls, and beautiful mountains that shouldn’t be missed.
