Stress is one thing you should never pack for your holidays. One survey revealed that 38% Americans stress levels increase during the holidays. The core meaning of taking a break from work is to relax, so taking stress will not only ruin the trip (if you’re travelling abroad), and all your money that you have spent on it, will also go wasted.
One best technique to avoid travel stress is to ensure a lot of spare time for yourself. If you are taking a flight, then it’s better to leave early for the airport so you won’t have to stress about missing the plane. It’s also advised to take flights at convenient time — avoid flights at late night so you can have enough sleep to be feel fresh.
Take up adventures that are fun and stress-free; look for destinations where you can relax more and do everything that makes you forget your worries and stay happy.
Don’t Over Plan Things
Sometimes we overdo it on the holidays. By trying to do everything — from shopping to site-seeing, we tend do it all in few days of vacation. This can make you paranoid and you might not even enjoy even a single thing completely.
Being organized is a one thing, but being a control freak when it comes to planning can ruin your entire holiday. While going on a vacation we often put pressure on ourselves to do all the sightseeing, but what’s more important to remember is that your holiday is about relaxation.
Have a look at as many sights you want, but in a schedule that won’t put pressure on you.

Holidays are the only time when you can have a good sleep, so make sure not to miss that chance. Get up early in the morning and head out for adventures and other fun activities. If you have had a good sleep during the night, then you will be all charged up to enjoy yourself throughout the day.
If you are travelling to a far flung beach just to relax, then take naps during the day as well. Once the vacation is over, you would have enough sleep to keep you fresh for the coming days.
Take a Break from Technology
There is no better time to take a break from devices and social media than the holidays! This should be the time dedicated to your family and friends and give your mind some peace. Social media can become a stressful holiday tyrant, but only if you let it.
Limit your phone time, check emails once day if necessary, don’t answer calls or messages from work. We understand how important it is for some people to upload pictures of all the good times they are having, so our advice is to select one time a day for all your uploads. Once you are done having all the fun, dedicate an hour or two to scroll through the social media, rather than being hooked to your phone or iPad for the whole day.
On holidays, try to get in touch with nature as much as possible. Being surrounded by nature, is one of the most relaxing things you can do. If you are in a city, visit gardens, parks, forests, go for a long walk or cycle around the sites.
Hiking is also a great idea — it’s an adventure and a great way to interact with nature. According to research, hiking increases happiness and curbs depression. Camping is also a great idea for an outdoor activity, it’s a great experience for a nature filled holiday.
If you have children, escape the hustle and bustle of your family life and choose an Adults only campsite, where seclusion and peace are guaranteed.
Eat and Drink What You Like
Most people ruin their holidays worrying about gaining calories or spending too much on food and drinks. To stress less about money, make a budget and spend it wisely. It’s advisable to divide your spending per day.
About gaining calories, well you are on a holiday so it doesn’t matter if you gain some extra pounds. You can shed it once you get back to your normal routine. So eat what your heart desires — try different cuisines and drink your favorite cocktails as much as you want.
When it comes to alcohol, make sure to not over do it because nothing ruins a good holiday spirit than a horrible hangover.
A day at a spa or even an hour of massage can be very relaxing on a holiday, and will uplift your mood. Couples massage is a great idea for a relaxing and intimate activity with your loved one.
Spa holidays have great benefits on your health and mind. A good massage or spa can change your entire holiday experience. A stay at a luxury spa is an alluring aspect of the holidays to indulge yourself in the pampering session.
Burn It Out with Exercise
This might be the last thing you would want to do on a holiday, but trust me, adding exercise in to your daily routine, even on holidays, can be a good way of keeping yourself stress free and fresh.
We are not recommending you to hit the gym in some tropical country. Instead, go for a walk or a run along the beach or do some cycling around the city. This will keep your body in movement and make you feel even more good about yourself. You can also relieve stress by burning out those extra calories you gained by eating hot lava cakes or a pepperoni pizza.
Manage Your Expectations
While going on a holiday, one might have high expectations about certain places, but don’t be sad if things don’t turn out the way you expected. Holidays are about having fun, so if getting on top of the Eiffel tower doesn’t meet your level of expectations, then don’t go into a downer.
Instead, think about all the fun you had while having other fun-filled experiences. Stay excited but keep your expectations low — this way you won’t feel disappointed and if things turn out better, you’ll only get happier.
Do What Makes You Feel Happy
Holidays are all about relaxing and having a good time, so don’t restrict yourself to anything you don’t desire. Throw away the added burden and do whatever makes you feel happy. If your friends want to go to the beach, but you want to see the museum instead, go visit it, because this time is all about you.
