Planning your first-ever travel experience, Feet Do Travel, how will you get there, what will you pack, suitcase or backpack? Working and volunteering
Travelling is one of the best things you can do to take a break from real-life, broaden your horizons, and have the very best cultural experiences. There are so many physical and mental benefits to travelling, however there are also a lot of elements to consider before taking your first adventure to foreign lands.

Planning your first ever trip overseas can seem like a daunting challenge due of the myriad of things that require your focus. But with the help and advice, you will be able to make your goal of your first ever travel experience a reality.

Feet Do Travel help you with planning your first-ever travel experience.

Choose Your Destination

This may seem like the most obvious place to start, but it isn’t as easy as pointing to a place on a map. There are several important factors to consider when choosing your ideal destination. Do you want to visit cities, or are beaches more your thing? Maybe you want to view iconic landmarks like Taj Mahal or Angkor Wat. If you’re a nature lover you may want to hike Macchu Picchu, go on a safari or see marine life in Baltimore aquarium,  Would you like action or adventure, such as Scuba Diving, Freediving or climbing? Are there special events or festivals that you’ve always wanted to attend, such as India's Holi Festival or America's Burning Man?

Asking yourself these questions will help you choose the perfect destination for your first time travel experience.

How are You Getting There?

Picking your mode of transport is another key part improving your travel experience, especially if you need low budget travel. Firstly, what transport methods are available to reach your chosen destination. Can you fly directly or are there multiple access options? Another deciding factor is how much time you have to travel to, from and around your selected paradise. Are you slow travelling with a flexible schedule, or are you on a fixed schedule and short for time?

Investigating these points first will allow you to establish whether boats, trains or planes are options for you, and if you have the time to make the travel schedules work for you.

Packing

Packing is one of the most important (but least enjoyable) parts of the travel process and should be thought about carefully. Deciding what you will and won’t need is such a burden, and there is a fine line between being prepared and carrying way too much!

First you need to decide if you will take a suitcase or a backpack, will you roll your clothes or use packing cubes? Having a packing system is one of the best way to help with the chore of packing. Developing your own packing system tailored to your chosen destination, will remove the stress involved, and help improve the quality of your overall travel experience!

Will You Be Working?

If you are planning a sabbatical and will be away from your home and job for a longer period of time, think carefully about your work commitments. Firstly, speak to your employers about remote working opportunities, what hours of work you will be required to do, and don’t forget a possible new timezone. Will you need a visa for working abroad, and last but not least, does your chosen destination have facilities to enable you to work remotely, or nomadically? Being in the middle of the jungle with no internet and important emails to answer is problematic.

Maybe you are considering working or volunteering when you are away. Volunteering is a great way of immersing yourself into a local culture, and you have a chance to help with an issue you care about. If you’re a dog lover for example, choosing Workaway means you stay for free at Moalboal Animal Welfare, Cebu, Philippines, and in return you work a few hours each day with dog feeding, walks and giving the animals love.

Although these are just a few considerations for planning your first ever travel experience, they will give you the best starting point to plan the perfect travel experience in the right destination for you.
