If you have never visited one of the many food festivals held up and down the country, then we would encourage you to change that in 2018. To help you choose from literally hundreds of events, we have put together a list of what we feel are 5 of the very best food festivals.
Are you ready for some good food inspiration?
Taste of London has become one of the must-attend foodie events of the summer festival calendar. Held at the pristine and beautiful Regent's Park in London 13–17 June, this event is jam-packed with great reasons to attend.
Barrafina, Duddell's and many other fine restaurants based in London will be at the festival to showcase some of their best dishes. There will also be a selection of internationally-renowned chefs performing live cooking demonstrations, which will give you some expert tips and tricks to try at home.
Additionally, as you'd expect from any self-respecting food festival, there will be a staggering 200 food and drink stalls around the park offering sensations for your taste buds. If that still isn’t enough to draw your attention to this event, there are also a range of different cocktail and wine tastings, plus informative food pairing discussions and talks.
An incredibly popular event which is often seen as the opening to the British summer food festival season, you have to experience Taste of London for yourself. The sheer size and scale of this event needs to be seen to be believed.
To combine the increasingly popular mainstays of the British festival season: food festivals with a classic music festival - Jamie Oliver and Alex James return with their Big Feastival on the last weekend in August.
Held at the amazing farm of Alex James (bassist of indie legends Blur and farmer) in the stunning countryside of the Cotswolds, this is a dual celebration of great food and even greater music. This year's event features a DJ set by dance music superstars Basement Jaxx, and live performances by the likes of Professor Green, Paloma Faith, James Arthur, Sugarhill Gang & The Furious Five and Craig David.
The food side of things includes appearances by firebrand Marco Pierre White, French Raymond Blanc and regular presenter of Matt Tebbutt, among many, many more.
As the site is a working farm, this is a great event for all the family with plenty to entertain your children and get them involved. So, whether you are young or old, a music lover who enjoys good grub, a foodie that enjoys a bit of music, or maybe you are a little bit of both - consider taking in all the aural and oral delights at the Big Feastival.
Falmouth Oyster Festival kicks off oyster season in style and, although it is not to everyone's taste, oyster and seafood lovers will find much to enjoy. Held between 11-14 October, there is no better way to start oyster season than at this Cornish coastal festival.
More than just an excuse to eat your weight in freshly-shucked oysters, this festival consists of a programme jam-packed with live demonstrations of intriguing and inspirational recipes by chefs from the local area, plus there is also great live music.
Along with the music and oysters, there is a lot of local ale and wine to try. Aimed at all members of the family, there will be shell painting and children’s entertainment.
Join in singing the sea shanties, marvel at the town parade, or participate in the oyster shucking competition. Whatever you do, we are sure you will be happy you took a chance on the Falmouth Oyster Festival.
Smoked & Uncut this year will take place in four different locations, Devon, Lime Wood, Bath and Brockenhurst. Although it may sound like a two-bit BBQ-fuelled food event, Smoked & Uncut is actually all about the glamour. Home-made street food which is as stunning a treat for the eye as it is for your belly takes centre stage, and is bolstered by an array of local ales and amazing cocktails to try.
Some of the best chefs in the country have been known to appear, cooking in the pop-up style family restaurant Feasts, serving to Feasting tables.
Meatopia by name, meatopia by nature. This Autumn event will give you the meat sweats! Featuring its own currency, it offers you a trip into meat-fuelled madness of the highest order. The basic gist of the weekend is that every day, 25 amazing chefs will design, create and put together a creative and delicious meal right in front of you to feast on.
The key thing to note about this event is that the meat is all ethically sourced, and the charcoal and wood on which the meat is cooked is also ethically-sourced. So you do not need to feel guilty about giving into your meaty indulgences.
The weekend will be sound-tracked by a wide variety of live music performances, craft stalls and other forms of entertainment. Although the meat is the showstopper, there are plenty of side orders too!
As you are undoubtedly aware, there are many other food and drink festivals taking place the length and beadth of the country throughout the year. However, the above is a great snapshot highlighting some of the festivals we are most looking forward to!
